The 42nd Annual Country Music Association Awards were held on November 12, 2008, at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee. CMA Award winners Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted this star-studded event. Kenny Chesney and Sugarland led the night with six nominations each.
For the opening musical number of the CMAs, featuring country stars Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, Dreamspace had just two weeks to design and animate all the on-stage visuals.
Creating a scrolling video that played behind the action for the entirety of the performance, our team told an artistic tale of the lives of the two stars.
From the stars’ childhood memories to breaking into the Country scene to them uniting for this performance, we told their life stories through old and new photos, hand-drawn illustrations, and many layers of animation. Subtly moving at a slow tempo, the animations worked with the music to intentionally enhance the stars’ performance rather than serving as an unwelcome distraction.
Brad Paisley and Keith Urban fell in love with the design we put together in two short weeks, as did many others who watched the 42nd CMAs–a testament to our team’s ability to creatively address any project, even in a short time frame.
